To foster and empower a strong, critically informed community of practice for food systems transformation in Scotland, provide essential analytical support to Scottish Local Authorities and Health Boards with their first Local Good Food Nation Plans, and undertake research into the enablers and ways of working needed to bring the Good Food Nation vision to life.
Our Living Food Systems Lab will:
Undertake essential analytical services (with, and for, relevant authorities) in reviewing, refining, developing, piloting, benchmarking and baselining a basket of indictors of progress for measuring food systems transformation.
Develop spaces (physical and virtual), resources, training and vision to foster and empower the strong community of practice for food systems transformation in Scotland.
Develop deep insights into ways of working (Scottish Government, Local Authorities, Health Boards and allied public bodies and commissions) and associated barriers to, and enablers of, coherent, compatible and effective food policy and legislation and food systems transformation.
What success will look like:
Influence, and support, the roll out of, guidance on, and implementation of the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act.
Connect, empower and inspire Scotland’s diverse community of practice for food systems transformation.
Deliver targeted analytical support to drive impactful, health centred, net-zero aligned food systems transformation solutions for relevant authorities and their associated communities.
Develop real time learning from, and insights into, Scotland’s experience of implementing ground-breaking, progressive food systems legislation.
Develop our connections to, and confidence, competence and comfort in doing, systems thinking in practice.
Develop, and pilot, a bespoke Executive Education programme in Food Systems Thinking, Data and Practice.
What the Living Good Food Nation Lab will offer over the next 3 years:
Providing bespoke data and analytical advice and support to Scottish Local Authorities and Health Boards to help with benchmarking and developing their 1st Local Good Food Nation Plans.
Providing support and guidance to Local Authorities and Health Boards with planning for, and developing, writing and consulting on, their 1st Local Good Food Nation Plans.
Providing access to specialist software (and analytical support) for Local Authorities and Health Boards to undertake local economic multiplier analysis.
Providing access to dedicated analytical support to help 6 local authorities and health boards undertake carbon footprint analysis of their public food menus.
Develop spaces for listening to, connecting with, and networking between, key actors and curate learning opportunities for our community of practice to help develop their competencies, confidence and comfort in food systems thinking and transformation.
Developing, and piloting a new, bespoke Executive Education programme in Food Systems Thinking, Data and Practice.
Designing and launching a new Food Podcast (working title: The Food of my Life) to share inspirational food stories and reflections on food systems transformation.
Undertake research into barriers to, and enablers of, food systems transformation across national and local government and with, and in, communities across Scotland.
